This was a unique and challenging project, as the installation took place on the 13th floor (roof top), of a newly constructed student residence building in Hatfield, Pretoria. The brief was for Artificial Grass SA to construct and install a mini football court that needed to be fully enclosed, (no fun having soccer balls flying off the roof top into the streets down below), a practice basketball court, (also fully enclosed), as well as ‘chill zone’ artificial grass landscaped areas. The landscaped areas were to be flat as well as mounded, which added to the challenge.
Apart from the logistics of getting materials to the 13th floor, (no lifts available at the time), and often the crane was not available either, so many many stairs were climbed daily, factors such as wind forces for the enclosures also needed to be taken into account. A challenging project indeed, but happy to report that it ended up being a very successful ‘WOW’ project indeed. And did we mentioned the stunning views over the city and University of Pretoria…. Oh my!!
